As The Moon Queen is a brief collection of poems, I’ll keep my review of it brief as well.First off, if you want to read it but worry you won’t have the time or are too busy, fear not! I read this all in one short sitting and didn’t feel rushed at all. The Moon Queen hits the perfect sweet spot in it’s length.
However, due to it’s short nature, one can see overarching patterns in it. Most of the pieces in The Moon Queen are very similar to one another, all with a dark, gloomy, and foreboding atmosphere. I don’t mind the themes, but I would’ve liked a little more variation. But don’t misunderstand; variation was in fact present, – from Thick Skin to Mistletoe to Snowman -, but it fell the slightest bit short in the amount I felt was needed.
The writing was enjoyable, with differing melodies and lush imagery. The descriptions draw you in without you even realizing it, the writing style painting a clear picture without drawing too much attention to itself. Another plus of this book was that it had multiple authors, which means that the reader has the pleasure of experiencing the distinct voices of each.
I feel this collection was put together quickly, with attention to detail falling a bit by the wayside. The melody in certain lines didn’t add up where I didn’t see a use for dissonance and the language could’ve been shaped up some more. None of the aforementioned was very present, but it still caught my attention where it did.
Overall, The Moon Queen earns a solid 4 out of 5.

I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone, whether they like to read poetry or not, as this book has something for everyone. When I began to read this book I decided to read three or four poems a day, I have ended up reading them all in one go, as I couldnt put it down. I was engrossed from beginning to end and have now read the entire book twice. I have found that by reading this twice, the poems meaning becomes clearer, and makes the book even more enjoyable. I gave this book 5 stars because it captivated me from beginning to end, and left me wanting to read more......Thankyou for such an amazing book..... Thomas Clark.
Bex Pavia has a true knack for writing fun, rhyming poetry with clear imagery.
I have never been what you would call an avid poetry reader. I enjoy the occasional verse, but to actively go out and buy a book of poetry? Not very likely. That was until I discovered Bex Pavia and her two volumes of poetry. The Soul Bearer was absolutely stunning and I still find myself going back from time to time and re-reading various poems. Then came The Moon Queen. Bex once again demonstrates her skill with bending words into emotions. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed The Moon Queen every bit as much as The Soul Bearer... just please don't ask me to pick a favorite because that would be nearly impossible. I highly recommend The Moon Queen as a must read for poetry lovers! I also recommend it for anyone who has a passing fancy with poetry.
It is interesting to me that this collection of poems, compared to those in The Soul Bearer, mirror the contrast in their respective covers. The dark cover with robed Death matches the dark and deep poems inside the earlier book. The light cover with the beautiful Moon Queen matches the lighter nature of these poems.
These are beautiful poems. I enjoyed them all, and I look forward to the next collection.
It had been a while since I picked up a book of poetry to read, and can't say how happy I am that my friend recommended this compilation to me.
The Moon Queen is a wonderful mix of mostly lyrical poems and albeit some are ominous, all should make you feel a different type emotion than those felt during long novels. It was divine to feel rather laid-back and serene upon completing this body of work.
Ms Pavia is a talented writer who vividly places readers inside each poem with her verdant metaphors. I was also impressed with poems by those other than Bex Pavia. This collection of distinct voices seems much like a great painting brought together by strokes from various artist adding just the perfect nuances to a colorful canvas.
The perfect blend of poems within The Moon Queen had a daunting rhythm that kept my attention and I recommend this to others - even if you are not heavy into poetry.
